Texas State Track and Field Director Jody Stewart was named to his position on September 28, 2015 and has since hit the ground running. The former Stanford track and field assistant coach has already impacted the conference standings.

In his first year as director, Stewart and the men’s team claimed their first Sun Belt indoor track & field championship; the women’s team came in at a close second. For the men, it was not even close, finishing 14 points above second place. The women finished only two points behind the leaders.

A total of 21 Bobcats in different events qualified to go to the conference finals. The Bobcat track teams have a lot to look forward to with a team comprised of many underclassmen. De’Marcus Porter, a sophomore from Pine Bluff, Arkansas participated in the 2015 NCAA Outdoor Championships after standing out on the Bobcats 400 meter relay team.

With promising young athletes like Porter on the team, Stewart is in a position to bring Texas State track to whole new levels. Coming into his second season at Texas State, expectations might be higher for Stewart but with a full year of head coach experience under his belt, the sky is the limit for the 2017 Bobcat track teams.
