CoastalCarolinaChanticleersThis past weekend, the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers are headed to their first ever College World Series in school history.

You may wonder why this is a big deal in Bobcat sports or Sun Belt Conference sports period. Last year, on September 1, the Coastal Carolina President, David DeCenzo announced that the Chanticleers athletic program would be joining the Sun Belt Conference, which will go into effect July 1 of this year.

The Chanticleers are 49-16 so far this baseball season. Coastal Carolina defeated the No. 8 national seed LSU tigers 4-3 in Baton Rouge to advance to the College World Series. This was the team’s third appearance at super regionals. Before this win they were 0-4 in super regional play. They are now the seventh team to clench a spot.

With the win over LSU they are now the No.2 seed. Michael Paez had the winning hit for the chanticleers in the bottom of the ninth for the big win. Paez was just drafted by the Mets for the MLB 2016 Draft.

The Chanticleers will play against the winner of the NCAA Gainesville Super Regional which is later on this week between Florida and Florida State. Be on the lookout for the winner of that Super Regional to find out who Coastal Carolina will face. Good luck to our fellow Sun Belt family.
