After a rough season opener on the road, the San Marcos Rattlers return home this Friday to host the Canyon Cougars in week two of the 2016-17 regular season. Both teams enter this game with a 0-1 record.

The Rattlers were sent home with a 40-21 loss to East Central last week. Back-to-back-to-back turnovers by San Marcos early in the game gave East Central too much of a head start for the Rattlers to overcome. The Cougars did not fare much better, falling to Cedar Ridge 35-0.
But there were bright spots for the Rattlers.
Quarterback Tyler Moreno looked right at home under center. Moreno completed over 65% of his passes against East Central and found the end zone twice. Running backs Collin Ramos and Jamon Johnson shared the load as starter Cavion Garner was knocked out of the game early on. Both Ramos and Johnson totaled over 35 yards rushing. Jordan Tapia looked every bit the playmaker after he was limited from action last season.
The Rattler defense will look to rebound against a Cougar offense that managed less than 50 yards of total offense last week and failed to find the end zone. Anchor of the Rattlers defense, Colby Vidrine lead the team with 9 tackles against East Central. Linebacker Nicholas Ridings-Cook tied Vidrine for the team lead with 9 tackles of his own.
Last season the Rattlers went 5-1 at home. Friday night they will look to defend Rattler Stadium once again.
Kickoff is scheduled Sept. 2, at 7:30p.m. and will be broadcast on KTSW 89.9 with the pre-game show starting at 7:15p.m.

However, dig a little deeper into the […]
