SAN MARCOS — The Rattlers looked to bounce back in their first home game of the season after falling to East Central in the prior week 40-21.
The game saw a good crowd for the Rattlers home opener. Canyon coming off of a 35-0 loss the week before put the first points on the board early with a field goal before the Rattlers answered back later in the first quarter with a rushing TD but a failed PAT left the score 6-3 after the first quarter.

Canyon then tied it 6-6 with another field goal and took the lead when they ran it in to go up 13-6. San Marcos tied it up with another rushing TD to make it 13-13 with three minutes left before half.
Then, in the third quarter after San Marcos got an interception, Jamon Johnson took it 80 yards for another rushing TD to go up 20-13.
In the fourth quarter, with just over six minutes to go, Tyler Moreno threw a dime to Prudy Calderon for a touchdown to go up 27-13. Canyon wouldn’t quit and, with just under three minutes, scored a rushing TD to bring it to 27-20. And that is the closest they would get as the Rattler D forces a three and out on their last drive.
San Marcos High School will take on New Braunfels next week at 7:30 p.m at Rattler Stadium. You can listen live on KTSW-FM 89.9.
