Bobcat Football will finally have the chance to play in front their fans this Saturday against the No. 6 team in the nation, the Houston Cougars. The Cats currently hold a 1-1 record after three weeks of football but had an inconvenient bye week in week two.
In week one, the Bobcats defeated the Ohio Bobcats 56-54 in triple overtime. After the bye week the Bobcats ended up losing 42-3 to the No. 24 Arkansas Razorbacks.
The Bobcats offense will need sophomore running back Mayberry to increase production this week. Mayberry currently has 27 carries, rushed for 113 yards and has a solo touchdown thus far. Â The passing game is essential for a win and Tyler Jones will need to have a great game. Jones is currently 51-81 and has 501 yards on the season. Jones has four touchdowns and three interceptions.
The Cougars offense is dependent on how Heisman candidate quarterback Greg Ward Jr. performs. Ward is currently 47-76 and has 646 yards on the season. Ward has three touchdowns and two interceptions. But the rushing game is a hidden weapon for the Cougars. Duke Catalon, the Texas transfer, currently has 38 carries and has rushed 155 yards on the season.
Texas State has allowed an average of 48 points per game and the defense has allowed an average of 317 passing yards. In comparison, the Cougars have allowed an average of 13 points per game and allowing an average of 38 rushing yards.
Yes, 38 rushing yards.
Game starts at 6:00 p.m. at Bobcat Stadium and KTSW Sports will begin pre-game coverage at 5:45 p.m. on KTSW 89.9 or KTSW.net. For live tweeting you can follow us on Twitter.
