The Bobcats struggled against the Georgia State Panthers in Atlanta with a final score of 41-21. With this loss, the Bobcats record falls to 2-3 and starts out 0-1 in Sun Belt Conference play.
The first quarter belonged to the Bobcats as they got out to a 14-0 lead after a Tyler Jones threw for one touchdown and ran for another score. The momentum swung in the Panthers’ favor after Brandon McDowell ran a punt back for a touchdown that was called back after a holding call.
After the Bobcats went on the punt, the Panthers went on to score four touchdowns and one field goal unanswered.
In the second half, the Panthers fumbled the ball on three consecutive possessions in their own territory while the Bobcats failed to convert on any of those chances.
Jones finished with 300 yards passing, one touchdown and two interceptions and added another three touchdowns rushing. Stephan Mayberry ended with 87 yards, and Elijah King lead all receivers with 85 yards.
The Bobcats allowed 340 passing yards and 191 rushing yards defensively as they struggled to stop the Panthers all day.
The Bobcats are now 0-1 in the Sun Belt Conference and play their next game against conference opponent UL Monroe in Monroe at 6 p.m. on Saturday. Be sure to tune into KTSW 89.9 for coverage of the game.
