The Bobcat football team fell short against the University of Louisiana Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns 27-3 at homecoming Saturday night.
The Bobcats came out with a good start, kicking a field goal on their first possession, but things did not pick up from there. The field goal would be there only score of the game. Javante O’Roy managed to intercept Ragin’ Cajun quarterback Anthony Jennings during the first quarter but Tyler Jones and the offense failed to capitalize.
The second quarter continued to be a challenge for the Bobcats, as they were outscored 10-0 by the Ragin’ Cajuns during the quarter. As the offense struggled to move the ball, a
special teams miscue lead to a Ragin’ Cajun score. After the defense forced a punt, Brandon McDowell fumbled a punt return that lead to Elijah McGuire’s first touchdown of the night. Following another punt by the Bobcats the Ragin’ Caj
uns offense ended the first half with a field goal.
The offense continued struggling in the second half. In their first offensive possession Tyler Jones was intercepted by the Ragin’ Cajuns cornerback, Simeon Thomas. Following the interception, Elijah McGuire moved into over 100 yards rushing for the night and scored his second touchdown of the contest.
With the Ragin’ Cajuns taking a 20-3 lead in the third quarter, they began to run the clock out with Elijah McGuire leading the way, finishing with 112 yards and two touchdown. Anthony Jennings also got in on the second half scoring, throwing a touchdown to Keenan Barnes in the fourth quarter. Jennings finished the game with 165 yards, one touchdown and one interception.
Tyler Jones finished the game with 142 yards and one interceptions, Stedman Mayberry finished with 54 rushing yards and five receptions and Elijah King led all receivers with 42 yards.
Following the loss the Bobcats are now 2-5 with a 0-3 Sun Belt Conference record. The Bobcats are playing at the 5-2 Appalachian State Mountaineers on November 5 in Boone, North Carolina. You can listen to coverage of the game right here on KTSW.
