The Texas State volleyball team (18-11, 11-3 SBC) has earned the No. 3 seed in the upcoming Sun Belt Conference Volleyball Championship. The Bobcats have been part of a three-team race at the top of the standings. Texas State, Arkansas State and Coastal Carolina have asserted themselves as the class of the conference. The Bobcats ripped off nine straight conference wins before falling twice last week, which guaranteed them the No. 3 seed.
Head Coach Karen Chisum is focused on getting her team as prepared as possible for the SBC Championship.
“It’s good from the standpoint that we know where we stand,” Chisum said. “We have that stability knowing that we are going to be the No. 3 seed. Now we don’t have to worry about that anymore, so we can just go to work preparing for the tournament. To me, the hardest match at a conference championship is that first one. We need to be at our best coming into that match. The pressure is on both teams at that point. There are only four teams left after the first round and it’s anybody’s tournament after that.”
Coach Chisum also hopes the two losses last week inspire her team to give a little extra in practice this week and get an opportunity to get healthy as the regular season comes to an end.
The Bobcats head to Louisiana to take on the UL Monroe Warhawks and the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns at the end of the week in their final two regular season matches of the 2016 season. The SBC Championships will be played in Arlington, Texas on the campus of UT Arlington from Nov. 18-20.
