The Texas State Softball team defeated the University of Texas Longhorns in extra innings 2-1 for the second time this season. The Bobcats are now 26-8 on the season and currently ranked third in the Sun Belt Conference.

Junior Jaelyn Young’s walk off single in the bottom of the 9th inning secured the win for the Bobcats. Young led the team going 2-for-4 at the plate along with an RBI. Junior pitcher Randi Rupp earned the victory on the mound. Rupp pitched 9 innings, tallying a total of 7 strikeouts, which makes her the 4th player in program history to record 800-plus career strikeouts. Rupp is now 16-5 on the season.
The Bobcats were the first to put a run up on the scoreboard after Christiana McDowell’s RBI single to right field in the bottom of the 3rd inning. Texas State maintained the lead until two errors left an opportunity for the Longhorns to score in the top of the 6th. Young’s walk-off single in the bottom of the 9th inning locked in another Bobcat win.
Texas State looks to face off against Sun Belt opponent South Alabama this weekend in Mobile, Alabama. The Bobcats will have a doubleheader on Saturday (1 p.m and 3 p.m) and a late afternoon game on Sunday (1 p.m).
