Texas State falls to a much improved Houston team by a score of 72 to 67. The Cougars star player Jasmyne Harris had a double double scoring 32 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. The leading score getter for the Bobcats was Taeler Deer netting 18 points, and played a total of 36 out of the 40 minutes. It was a three point game at halftime, but the second and third quarters were dominated by Houston as they outscored Texas State 40 to 29. The Cats only shot 18 percent from behind the arc, and that is a big part of their game. Bobcat’s Toshua Leavitt scored 13 points, and helped out on defense with four steals. She only made three out of her 17 3-point attempts, and that bad shooting set the tone for the rest of the team. Ericka May was a bright spot for the Cats getting a double double of her own with 12 points and a game high 14 rebounds. Other Cougars that scored in double digits were Dorian Branch and Octavia Barnes each scoring 15 and 11 respectively. Houston shot 45 percent from the field while texas State only shot 31 percent.
The Cats fall to 4-2 on the season and 1-1 on the current homestand. They take on Prairie View A&M 2 p.m. this Saturday with a 1:45 pregame right here on KTSW 89.9.
