Texas State Police Chief Laurie Espinoza Clouse began work Monday. Espinoza served with the police force at the University of North Texas for ten years, two of which she served as the chief at the medical center. Clouse said she plans to stay at the university longer than the previous chief, Jose Banales, who only lasted two years.

Clouse also said that her main goal coming into the University Police Department is to work towards accreditation with the International Association of Collegiate Law Enforcement Administrators (IACLEA). Getting accredited means that the department conforms to the highest professional standards for campus law enforcement and protective services.

The chief now must begin the task of filling several vacant positions at the police department. In filling the vacant positions, the chief wants to maintain the same amount of diversity that is already present in the department.
