It was an unusually cold night in March as the Texas State Bobcats hosted the Incarnate Word Cardinals. The Bobcats were coming off a win against UTSA and took that confidence into Wednesday. Jaylen Hubbard and Dalton Shuffield each homered with Hubbard leading the team with three hits, and Shuffield with three RBIs.
The game was scoreless into the third inning as Cole Coffey hit an RBI single into center field. Will Hollis would later score on a wild pitch, giving the Bobcats a 2-0 lead. For the Cardinals, Lee Thomas ripped a two run single to right field, giving Incarnate Word a 3-2 lead. With two runners on, Skyler Valentine ripped a double into the gap, scoring the tying run.
After a pitching change, Shuffield sent a towering shot over the left field fence for a three-run home run, giving Texas State a 6-3 lead. After a Hubbard bomb in the bottom of the eighth inning, Hunter McMahon came in on the mound to close out the game for Texas State, only allowing one run as the Bobcats earned a 7-4 victory.
Texas State improves to 9-4 on the season, and the Bobcats will host the UConn Huskies for a weekend series beginning on Friday at 6 p.m. at Bobcat Ballpark.
