It was a memorable Valentine’s Day for softball in San Marcos as the Texas State Bobcats matched up against out-of-state opponent, Saint Louis Billikens. The Bobcats came into this game with a great attitude and the motivation to win. Bobcats fought against the Saint Louis Billikens to take a 4-1 victory in the second game of the 2020 Bobcat Classic.
The Billikens started the game off strong in the top of the third inning as sophomore outfielder, Gabbie Kowalik, doubled to center, allowing sophomore Kristi Stevenson to score from first base which brought the Billikens 1-0.
Texas State’s defense came into play behind a remarkable performance by freshman pitcher Tori McCann, who attempted a succeeded at striking out the opposing team not once but six times.
With McCan’s pitching, the Bobcats had every opportunity to play great offense against the Billikens with a total of 11 hits. In addition, infielders Tara Oltmann and Hailey Mackay played great defensive duo as well with a combined performance of 6 outs .

On offense, senior outfielder Christiana McDowelll, was the first Bobcat to score in the bottom of the fifth inning after freshman infielder, Sara Vanderford hit a single near shortstop giving McDowell the opportunity to go from third base to to home plate.
The Bobcats gained an offensive momentum in the bottom of the sixth as senior infielder, Bailee Carter, hit a double which brought sophomore catcher, Cat Crenek, from second base to home scoring 2-1.
With the lead and Carter on first, it was McDowell’s turn to bat again, and this time she had the crowd cheer with a home run! Which gave the Bobcats a final score of 4-1.
The Texas State Bobcats started off their season strong with an overall record of 4-2 after their win.
