SAN MARCOS — Texas State University has implemented the Bobcat CARES program to financially assist students with COVID-19 related expenses and aid the financial costs of spring 2020, along with the upcoming summer and fall semesters.
Cristian Cavazos, political science student, said it is a good opportunity for students to make use of the funds.
“I applied because I felt like we somewhat deserve a refund,” Cavazos said. “We are not using any school resources because most of us aren’t at campus.”
Bobcat CARES assists students based on higher education emergency relief grants, the program will distribute as quickly as possible, according to the university website.
“I think it’s great that they are helping students out,” Cavazos said. “We are being hit hard by something we have no control over.”
All enrolled full-time, part-time students and graduate students are eligible apply for this program. Bobcat CARES covers expenses related to food, housing and course materials. Students who have not submitted a FAFSA application also qualify to apply for CARES. The amount of the grants CARES will distribute depends on application numbers, amount of aid available and any specific necessity stated in-application.
