Assistant coach Terrance Johnson will take the helm as the Texas State head men’s basketball coach heading into the 2020-21 season. Johnson spent five seasons with the maroon and gold prior to the promotion. Johnson becomes the 16th head coach in Texas State men’s program history.
Kaspar’s resignation comes after an investigation of racially insensitive comments brought to light by former Texas State guard Jaylen Shead.
Shead detailed the comments made by the former head coach on June 4 in a since deleted tweet.
“I could overlook the way he [Kaspar] disregarded the rules and our health,” Shead said in the four-page note screenshot tweet. “But I could not turn away from the many racially insensitive things that were said to me and other teammates.”
The university launched an investigation on Kaspar the day after Shead’s public tweet on June 5. Kaspar had previously been put on leave with pay during the September 2 Texas State University faculty senate meeting.
Kaspar spent seven seasons with the Bobcats in which he reached multiple different milestones including 119 wins, which ranks third in the university’s history.
Last week, the Division I Council accepted the proposed date of beginning the 2020-21 college basketball season for November 25.
