The Texas State Bobcats got their second win of the season led by a record-setting performance from quarterback Brady McBride.
McBride started at quarterback for the first time since the Louisiana Lafayette game replacing Tyler Vitt.
McBride completed 32-of-45 passing attempts for 443 yards and five touchdowns.
McBride’s five touchdowns through the air tied the Texas State record and his 443 passing yards is the second-most in a single game in Bobcat history behind Tyler Jones’s 475-yard passing game versus Incarnate Word in 2016.
The game was a back and forth shoot-out. Arkansas State took a 45-41 lead after a touchdown run from Jamal Jones with 1:43 remaining.
On the ensuing kickoff, Jeremiah Haydel broke off a 41-yard return to set up the Bobcats.
With 34 seconds remaining the Bobcats scored a go-ahead touchdown on a run from Calvin Hill, taking a 47-45 lead.
The Bobcats would hold on to win improving their record to 2-9 on the season.
Texas State will take on arguably the best team in the Sun Belt this week in #16 Coastal Carolina.
The Chanticleers are 8-0 and coming off a 34-23 victory over Appalachian State.
Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. on Saturday and will be broadcasted on ESPN+ and KTSW 89.9.
