Bo Edmundson, junior quarterback for Lake Travis, threw for 159 yards and one touchdown Friday in a blowout win against the Rattlers in San Marcos.

After the 45-6 victory, the Cavaliers are now 3-1 on the season, while the Rattlers fall to 1-3 going into their bye week. Rattlers’ quarterback, Isaiah DeLeon was held to only four completions for 80 yards and an interception. The running game wasn’t much better for San Marcos as their leading rusher, Jake Rodriquez-scholz was held to only 40 yards.

Once the first quarter ended in a 28-0 lead for the Cavaliers, a comeback for San Marcos was very unlikely. However, the Rattlers were able to find some scoring in the fourth quarter as junior Jake Darling recovered a fumble and took it back for a touchdown. In the end, Head Coach John Walsh puts the blame on the many mistakes made by his team.

“We couldn’t dig our own holes,” Walsh said. “That’s really the only disappointing part I got is, we dug that hole and we didn’t make the fight last longer.”

Going into the game Walsh and the Rattlers knew that Lake Travis was going to be a difficult win. Even with the blowout loss to the Cavaliers this weekend, San Marcos looks ahead in the season ready to compete for a playoff spot.

“These programs are on two different spectrums,” Walsh said. “I was just real with them… here’s where we’re at, here’s where they’re at. For us, it’s about that last five-game stretch and make sure we get better.”

This was also the first game of the season where no San Marcos players were injured during the game. With already multiple key players out for the Rattlers, this was a positive to come out of Friday’s loss.

“That’s the number one positive,” Walsh said. “We said we wanted to survive and make sure we were all healthy by the Hays week.”

San Marcos will not be playing this weekend, but their next game is on the road against Westlake on Oct. 1st in Austin. Texas. The Rattlers will look to improve to 2-3 on the season and win their first away game.
