Texas State football (1-2) is set to face off against the Eastern Michigan Eagles (2-1) Saturday in their first ever meeting and their second away game of the season.

The Bobcats are 1-0 season on the road, while Eastern Michigan won their only home game. Texas State is coming off a 42-34 loss to Incarnate Word (UIW) while Eastern Michigan beat the University of Massachusetts, 42-28, last weekend.

Coach Jake Spavital and the Bobcats hope to improve their execution after having a few miscues in their previous matchup.

“There were sometimes where they tried to make a play instead of trusting the whole process,” Jake Spavital said. “We can’t do that. Especially against a team like Eastern Michigan.”

Texas State defensive coordinator Zac Spavital hopes the Bobcats can get a comfortable feel from Eastern Michigan’s run-heavy, pro-style offense. Texas State allowed 455 total yards against UIW, only 79 of them on the ground.

“We talked about being uncomfortable,” Zac Spavital said. “We’ve been comfortable during the first couple of weeks with formations and kind of having an idea of what to practice. With Incarnate Word, we knew we would see things that we hadn’t seen [this year].”

Sophomore defensive lineman Jordan Revels finished with seven total tackles, a tackle for loss, and a quarterback hit against the Cardinals. Revels says the Bobcats need to find a way to win and can’t continue to make excuses for themselves. 25 players were out due to COVID-19 or injury.

“We had a lot of backups in the game [against the Cardinals],” Revels said. “That’s what happened last year. We don’t want to keep making that an excuse for ourselves.”

The matchup against the Eagles is at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 25. The game will be played at Rynearson Stadium. You can listen live on KTSW FM 89.9 San Marcos and will also be streamed on ESPN+.
