Texas State Baseball (18-4 overall, 3-0 Sun Belt) will be back in action against the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers (12-7-1 overall, 1-1-1 Sun Belt) for a three-game series starting Friday, March 25th at Bobcat Ballpark in San Marcos at 6 p.m.

The baseball team is currently ranked 20th in the nation after getting off to a historic start, which included wins against Arizona and, at the time, the number one team in the nation, Texas. However, The Bobcats are coming off a 2-4 loss to Incarnate Word, ending their eight-game winning streak. Putting that loss behind them, the Bobcats are looking ahead and getting prepared for their next conference game.

This will be the 12 match-ups between the two teams since Coastal Carolina joined the Sun Belt in 2016. The series is currently 8-4 in favor of the Chanticleers, but the Bobcats are hoping to get a win to help build their confidence as they advance.

Bobcat Dalton Shuffield, the senior infielder, leads the team in batting average with .397 and 22 RBIs. He also leads the team in five home runs alongside outfielder senior John Wuthrich, aiding the team total of 22. Freshman infielder, Daylan Pena, is trailing second with 18 RBIs.

Now looking at the Chanticleers, Matt McDermott, the super senior infielder, leads the team with a .333 batting average, with the Sun Belt preseason player of the year, junior infielder Eric Brown, close behind with a .328 average. The team has 22 home runs for the season, and junior infielder Dale Thomas has six of his own.

The Chanticleers are coming off an impressive 16-7 win against the No. 22 Clemson Tigers. Senior outfielder Tyler Johnson recorded a career-high of five RBIs.

With both teams coming together for their fourth conference game, it should be a fun one. The Bobcats have had an impressive month of March. Just a couple of weeks ago, they split a two-game series with the Texas Longhorns.

The Bobcats have been making their presence known during the early stages of the season and hopefully are able to continue that success for the rest of the season.

Sunday, the final game of the series, is kid’s day at Bobcat Ballpark. Kids at the game will be able to stand with the players during the national anthem, meet the players, and more after the game. Also, Jake Spavital, head football coach, will throw the first pitch.

The Bobcats will be on the road for their next game, non-conference, against Sam Houston (12-9) on March 29th at Don Sanders Stadium in Huntsville, Texas, at 6:30 p.m.

Their next conference game will be a three-game series against Appalachian State on April 3rd at Smith Stadium in Boone, N.C. at 2 p.m.
