Leading scorers Malik Presley, Kaden Gumbs and Jayven Cofer bring the San Marcos Rattlers Boys Basketball team a 100-62 win over Judson. This big win moved the Rattlers to 8-0 on district and 33-2 on the season.
With this win, The Rattlers continue their winning streak and extend it to 27 wins. This season was a historical season for the Rattlers, since they broke the regular season win record of 33 wins. “Enjoy the moment, when you’re in the moment,” said Head Coach Dan Miller.
The game started off quickly with the Rattlers coming out to a 15-point lead on the Rockets, and never looked back. The lead grew to 38-points and led the Rattlers to win this game.
The defense had played a huge part in helping the Rattlers score points by scoring points in transition off of Judson turnovers.
“We play very fast and play with a lot of space,” said Coach Miller. “This is something we practice every day and we got athletes, so it makes it easier for all of us and fun,” said Malik Presley.
Coming into the second quarter, the Rattlers had already scored 60-points with a 32-point margin, and it kept getting bigger as the game went on.
“Last time, they started pretty hard on us by hitting a lot of threes, so we planned on taking out the threes and getting the ball out of Donovan’s hands,” said Presley. “It was just clicking tonight, and the way our defense was playing, it definitely helped us out,” said Coach Miller.
Second half was just the same as the first quarter, with the same amount of threes, and points in transition. “The combination of hard defense and hard offense got to them throughout the game especially in the first half,” noted Coach Miller.
With this large win against a good Judson team, the Rattler solidified their first-place spot in district and a spot in the playoffs.
The Rattlers advanced to 8-0 in district play and 33-2 on the season. Their next game is in New Braunfels on Feb. 10th at 7:00p.m and will be broadcasted live on KTSW 89.9.
