The Bobcats lost against the UTSA Roadrunners with a score of 11-2 on Tuesday night.
Coming home from Phoenix Arizona where they lost against Grand Canyon University 11-0, the Bobcats took the field at the ballpark to face off against their I-35 rival.
After suffering a pitching injury, starter Peyton Zabel was taken out of the game to be replaced by Jack Stroud, who he pitched three scoreless innings and struck out two.
The Bobcats found themselves an early lead scoring one run in the second inning with Cade Manning reaching on a fielder’s choice and bringing home Daylan Pena. The Roadrunners followed up with runs in the fourth and fifth innings, then went on to score seven runs in the sixth.
The Roadrunners hit a home run in the top of the fifth, and then scored seven runs off two more home runs in the sixth putting them up by eight runs. After two pitcher changes in the top of the sixth the Bobcats struggled to get back into this one.
When asked about the pitching changes, Head Coach Steven Trout had to say that they were, “Just trying to not give up seven runs, just trying to find someone to stop them.”
The Bobcats went on to continue to struggle in the bottom of the sixth inning when all three batters were struck out. This brought on two more innings where the Roadrunners went on to score a run in the seventh and eighth innings.
The Bobcats last stand was in the bottom of the ninth when an error allowed Rashawn Galloway to make it to second base, from there Galloway would move to third base after a first base groundout hit by Kyle Atkinson, it was when Damien Whitfield who hit the ball out to left center, and almost being caught by a diving outfielder, hit the ground and brought Rashawn Galloway Home. This loss is following the 11-0 loss against Grand Canyon University.
Coach Trout said that the Bobcats “have a lot of work to do, and that this is the second game in a row where it hasn’t been good for us.” When asked about how Coach Trout was going to use this loss to motivate his team for the games later in the week he said, “Very simple, come out and try to win a job.” Coach Trout continued to say that the Bobcats needed to work on all sides of the baseball and that “we’re going to come out tomorrow and get after it and do it the next day.”
This game was the first of the Bobcats ten game home-stand where they will face teams such as North Dakota State, TCU, Southern Miss and more.
The Next Game will be this Friday against the North Dakota State Bison and will be the start of a three-game series at Bobcat Ballpark against the Bison.
The game between the Bison and the Bobcats will be broadcast live on KTSW 89.9 with Kyle Owen on the call and Koby Jackson providing live updates and news throughout the game.
