The Texas State Baseball team ended their ten-game homestead with two wins against Texas A&M Corpus Christi and Houston Christian University Tuesday and Wednesday.

On Tuesday, the baseball team took on Texas A&M Corpus Christi and won by a narrow margin of two points with a score of 7-5. This game started off with Texas A&M Corpus Christi earning two runs in the first inning, gaining the lead, but that lead didn’t last long. The Bobcats had matched the Islanders’ two-run effort in the bottom of the first inning to tie the backup at two.

In the third inning, junior Davis Powell hit a two-run homer, followed by Jose Gonzales’s homer to far left field, giving the Bobcats a 5-2 lead.

Throughout the game, the Bobcats held the Islanders to no runs for six innings until they had given up three runs in the last two innings, but they managed to keep their lead and earned the win. “You have to show up to play every day, it’s just the way baseball is,” said Coach Trout.

The energy on the team started off slow and picked up towards the end to help secure the win. “Overall, emotionally it just wasn’t a good night for us, and it had showed throughout the game, so we will need to step it up tomorrow against Houston Christian,” said Trout.

Wednesday, the Bobcats took on the Huskies of Houston Christian. Throughout the first five innings, it was mostly a pitching fest; although, the score had showed otherwise, with it being 4-3 in favor of the Bobcats. “I think Peyton Zabel was really good tonight probably the best he’s thrown in a Bobcat uniform, we’re definitely going to need that pitching down the road,” said Trout.

Payton Zabel faced 13 batters and dealt with batters well with three strikeouts, only allowing two hits. “I like to step up in these times because this is what I’m here for,” said Zabel.

The Bobcats tried to squeeze every run they could get in the last three innings to secure a much-needed win on this last game, on a ten-game home stretch, before going out on the road. “We just kept grinding and finding a way to score much-needed runs,” said Trout.

In the seventh, the Bobcats turned on offensively as freshman Chase Mora and Cade Manning hit back-to-back home runs. In the eighth, Manning followed up with another home run.

The Bobcats have four road games coming up in a series against coastal Carolina and one against UTRGV. The Bobcats won’t be back until March 31st for a series against Arkansas St.
