During the month of February, I got the chance to interview Daughter of the Wild (DOTW) for
KTSW Loves. DOTW is 10 years old this year and has already been nominated for three awards.
Nikkye Re’Anne, the owner, describes her business as, “A nexus of many of my interests ranging from plants, geology, jewelry making, vintage & antique + some.” She first started this business as a way to support herself through college. She learned most of her jewelry making skills when she worked at Paper Bear, a former San Marcos shop.
“I usually describe my creations as a co-creative endeavor, with Mother Nature doing the hard part. My main goal is to nurture people’s connection to nature,” Re’Anne said. “What you can find in my shop it’s 95% of things I either make myself or I find. If I don’t make it myself I am usually sourcing treasures from random places and keeping my methods as sustainable and ethical as possible.”
I’ve walked through the store myself before, and it is such a beautiful environment. There are
many different items to choose from like jewelry, clothes, and stickers! It is hard to walk out
empty handed. She even gives out complimentary bubbles.
As for future events, Re’Anne is seeking to offer monthly tarot readings with her friends but
everything is still being determined.
The three awards Daughter of the Wild has been nominated for are “Outstanding New Business” by
the San Marcos Downtown Association, “Best New Business” and “Best Gifts Shop” for Best of
Hays.
“It feels really good and deserved while at the same time, it’s weird because it’s hard for
my mind to wrap around all the work I’ve done to get to this point.” Re’Anne said.
The store hours are Wednesday-Sunday 11 to 6 at 218 N Guadalupe St. right off the square, if
you would like to support the business.
