SAN MARCOS—Women’s Texas State Basketball Head Coach Zenarae Antoine signed a contract extension through the 2025-2026 season that was announced Thursday morning.
Coach Antoine and the program are coming off their first Sun Belt Conference regular season championship where they finished with 23 total wins which ties the program’s Division I record. Also, this season Coach Antoine became the program’s all-time winningest coach when she won her 175th game on January 1st, 2023, against Georgia State, and was named the Sun Belt Coach of the Year.
Aside from the program’s exceptional overall season, they still lost the Sun Belt Conference tournament championship game to James Madison and took a first-round exit in the WNIT to Stephen F. Austin. Not to mention the program is also losing many of its core players including Sun Belt and Texas State career assists record holder Kennedy Taylor.
Other notable players not returning due to graduation are All-Sun Belt First Team player Da’Nasia Hood, starting guards Ja’Kayla Bowie, and Tianna Eaton. In total six players will not be returning and now Coach Antoine has the responsibility of sustaining last season’s success while having to building a new team.
Coach Antoine understands that responsibility as the program has recently signed three new players from the transfer portal. These include HBCU All-American Ja’Niah Henson from Morgan State University, and two players from Blinn College, NJACC First Team All-American forward Tiffany Tullis and guard Crystal Smith.
These additions now add to a total of five players to the 2023 signing class. The others include two freshmen, forward Julia Coleman, and guard Emi Steele. Coach Antoine is expected to sign additional players to this year’s signing class as her staff is still actively recruiting.
Bobcat nation will now have to wait and see if Coach Antoine can extend the success of this past year for the next three seasons with new players and a regular season championship to defend when her 13th official season starts this upcoming Fall.
