As we approach the Fourth of July, San Martians may be wondering what they can do to celebrate the National Holiday. For anyone who loves watching fireworks race through the night sky, you’re in luck – San Marcos has a fireworks show coming up that you won’t want to miss.
The July Fourth Fireworks Show is an annual tradition for San Marcos and is an absolute necessity for those who know that a Fourth of July celebration would simply be incomplete without fireworks.
There are a few great places to watch the show from, including the San Marcos Activity Center, the San Marcos Public Library, Bobcat Stadium, or the City Park. Simply bring along a blanket or lawn chair and settle down with some delicious treats while you watch the show! (However, please take note that alcohol and glass are not permitted at the event.)
The fireworks will begin at 9:30 p.m. San Martians who wish to watch from home can listen along to music and a fireworks countdown here on KTSW 89.9.
But with all this talk of fun and celebrations, we must pause and discuss safety, to make sure this Fourth of July is the best it can be.
Some San Martians may wish to put on their own fireworks show. It cannot be emphasized enough – please do not attempt this. Fireworks are not legal in San Marcos, according to Chapter 38 of the City of San Marcos Code of Ordinances.
Fireworks aside, Texas is in the midst of an intense heat wave. While it cools down a bit at night, that doesn’t mean we can’t be affected by the heat. Make sure to stay hydrated! Generally, individuals should be drinking about one ounce of fluid per pound of body weight during particularly hot months, according to Sarah Adler, a dietician working with the UCLA Health Sports Performance Department.
Of course, we can’t forget about our pets. You may be considering bringing your dog along to the San Marcos July Fourth Fireworks Show, but the Human Society of the United States advises that pets be left at home. Pets are startled by loud, jarring noises (such as fireworks), and leaving them inside with the TV or radio on may help soften the noise. However, if you do wish to bring your pet along with to the show, keep them on a leash and nearby at all times just in case they get spooked. Pets need to stay hydrated just as much as we humans do, so consider bringing along a bowl that can be filled with water for your pet to drink while you enjoy the show.
Finally, as with many national holidays, you may wish to enjoy an alcoholic beverage while celebrating. As always, remember to drink responsibly. Additionally, please remember that alcohol is not permitted at the San Marcos Fourth of July Fireworks Show.
The Fourth of July is a great holiday for spending time with friends and family, eating tasty foods and drinks, and watching spectacular fireworks shows. But in order to fully enjoy this celebration, we have to make sure we’re being safe – by drinking responsibly, keeping hydrated while outside, taking care of our pets, and remembering to leave the fireworks to the professionals.
As a reminder, the San Marcos Fireworks Show will kick off at 9:30 pm, and can be viewed best from the San Marcos Activity Center, San Marcos Public Library, Bobcat Stadium, or the City Park. Be sure to tune in to KTSW 89.9 for music and a live fireworks countdown!
