Have you ever noticed students giving tours around campus or representing the school at events? You might know them as your friend or classmate, but to future students and their families, they are the 40 faces of Texas State. These individuals are part of the University Ambassadors, a volunteer-based student organization that takes on the key role of engaging and educating future/current students and alumni on what it means to be a Bobcat. Their efforts lay the foundation for what the university represents and help shape the experiences of countless future Bobcats.
Their roles are not just limited to giving campus tours. UA is also responsible for hosting Bobcat Day, where students can talk with advisors and financial aid, view housing, meet and talk to student organizations, and overall understand what the university has to offer. Besides being tour guides, ambassadors also work as workers for the ring ceremony, greeters for campus events and attendees at banquets. It is no small task, but their passion for the university shines through in everything they do for this campus.
With a diverse group of members that participate in other organizations and clubs, UA has something to offer everyone. Whether you are looking to socialize, gain leadership skills or show school pride, you will find plenty of opportunities here. They believe in celebrating and supporting one another, making the environment welcoming and positive. Attending their members’ theatre production or having a social event at the bowling alley are just some examples of how fun it is to be a part of the organization.
“UA has been one of the most fun and rewarding experiences,” Angel Gonzalez, director of new members, said. “I have met some of the greatest people who motivate me every day. I love that with UA I can showcase my love for this university by hosting Bobcat Days and doing campus tours.”
Being a new UA member myself, I have to say that my experience has been incredible so far. The advisors are supportive, and the officers are incredibly hard-working. Plus, the veteran members are all friendly and welcoming – it is hard not to love being a part of the University Ambassadors! If you are worried about learning tour facts or speaking in public, do not worry – they will teach you everything you need to know. They also have social events, so everyone can get to know each other. Overall, I am looking forward to the upcoming year with UA as new members join us this semester and become part of our growing family!
Recently joined member, Branson Williams expressed his love for UA. “Being a member of the Texas State University Ambassadors opened doors to incredible opportunities for personal growth and leadership.” Williams said. “Through this inspiring community, I was able to positively impact campus life while forging friendships that will continue to shape my post-university journey.”
If this sounds like something you would be interested in, then do not be afraid to reach out! UA is more than happy to answer any questions or concerns you might have. Be sure to keep an eye out for applications to open at the start of each semester! For more information on the University Ambassadors and applying, check out their social website.
