Rattlers first home game against the Thunderbirds

SAN MARCOS, Texas— The San Marcos Rattlers hosted the Wagner Thunderbirds at the Toyota Rattler Stadium Friday evening.

The Rattlers, with an 0-3 record in the 2023 season as of now, lose to the Thunderbirds with a final score of 62-17. With an outstanding amount of yards that were performed by the Thunderbirds, the offense was bound to make a show for the night.

The Wagner Thunderbirds combined for 630 total yards with the running game leading on the way for the Thunderbirds offense. Even though Wagner had a dominant running attack of yards, only four yards were passing.

Wagner’s William Reynolds, a junior wide receiver, completed most of the yards along with Brayden Prasse, a senior fullback. Reynolds was named “Player of the Game” against Dripping Springs last Friday, Sept. 1. He was also named “Player of the Game” for the the Offensive end and for the overall game.

The San Marcos Rattlers completed a total of 236 yards; 188 yards are passing and 48 are rushing yards. Even though the Rattlers scored a total of two touchdowns and one complete field goal, there was a bit of improvement from both the offensive and the defensive ends for the team.

Both teams had a couple of hiccups throughout the game, but there is still room for improvements as they continue the season. With the offensive line for both teams, there were an abundance of penalties called upon throughout the game mostly being false starts. With the many penalties, it did not stop Wagner from scoring nine touchdowns all in all.

The Rattlers next game will be against the Alexander Bulldogs from Laredo, Texas with a record of 1-2 and it will be at the Rattler Stadium. Not only will it be their 2^nd home game of the season for them, but it will be their homecoming game for the student body at San Marcos High School. With the many setbacks that the Rattlers experienced within their recent games, the expectai7tions have definitely exceeded for themselves.
