SAN MARCOS, Texas — After the Texas State Bobcats defeated a Big 12 competitor for their first game of the season, the team’s expectations exceeded from that point on. Even though the Bobcats surrendered against the University of Texas at San Antonio Roadrunners, the Bobcats bounced back against the Jackson State Tigers for their first home game of the season.

The Jackson State Tigers are starting off the season with a brand-new head coach, T.C. Taylor. With their past head coach, Deion Sanders, now coaching the Colorado Buffaloes, the Tigers are still in motion with new leadership on the team.

The Bobcats had a historic night breaking a school record: 77 points mainly led by TJ Finley with his 5 all-purpose touchdowns. A total of eight players scored a touchdown throughout the night, and the Bobcats opened the season better than their season back in 2015.

Throughout the game, there were many injuries, but Myron Warren was the one that impacted the team the most. Warren was carted off the field due to his injury and more details are soon to be released in the current situation.

The game concluded with a final score of 77-34, handing a victory to the Bobcats. The Jackson State Tigers fought hard throughout the game, but it wasn’t enough to pull through.

With the offensive side for the Bobcats ready to show out, the total amount of yards completed for the entire game was 684. The amount of passing yards was 399 and 285 rushing yards.

The Tigers completed a total of 400 yards. The number of passing yards is 282 and 118 rushing yards. Starting quarterback, Jason Brown made a rushing touchdown and Irv Mulligan, running back, made two touchdowns.

Head Coach G.J. Kinne had the opportunity to add many more players in the second half, but more specifically in the fourth quarter. Kinne allowed for more players to play their positions and apply what they had been practicing to the real deal. Starting Quarterback TJ Finley is very proud of the fact that his teammates got the opportunity to play in the second half. “I think we did a great job as a unit and operating the defense,” Finley said.

During the post-game interview with G.J. Kinne and TJ Finley, both touched on how the crowd played a big influence while they played.

“What we had in the stadium today was really special,” Kinne said. “The pregame, the Catwalk, I mean that matters. That was unbelievable, that’s why I came to Texas State.”

With the Bobcat Stadium almost being at full capacity for their first home game of the season, TJ Finley believed the fans fueled the team up for their big win for the night.

“For the Bobcat nation to come out today and support us, it is very big and as they can see they have a very big part of this success,” Finley said.

The Texas State Bobcats will host the Nevada Wolf Pack next Saturday, Sept. 24, at 6:00 p.m. Head Coach G.J. Kinne stated that there is always improvement that needs to be made in order to keep the team successful for the team.
