Bobcats redshirt senior linebacker Brian Holloway was awarded the week four Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Week.
Holloway recorded a team-high 12 total tackles while adding on two tackles for loss and two forced fumbles. Holloway’s week four performance was crucial for the Bobcats’ largest comeback win as an FBS program against The University of Nevada on Saturday, Sept. 23.
Down 17-0 at halftime, Holloway played every defensive snap of the game for the Bobcats, holding the Wolfpack to 5.0 yards per play leading the Bobcats to a 35-24 victory.
Holloway currently ranks first on the Bobcats roster for total tackles with 37 and ranks 25th in the country with 9.2 tackles per game.
This is the Bobcats second player on the 2023 roster to win a Sun Belt honor. Quarterback TJ Finley won the Sun Belt Conference Offensive Player of the Week in week one in the Bobcats upset win over the Baylor Bears. Holloway continues the three year tradition of a defensive player winning the award for the Bobcats, with the last being Tory Spears in October 2022.
The Clear Lake, Texas, local is in his second season at Texas State. Holloway got his Bobcat debut last year against the Wolfpack and would get his first official start three weeks later against Houston Christian University, recording 49 total tackles for the 2022 season.
Holloway and the Bobcats look to use their week four comeback as momentum as they hit the road to open SunBelt play in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, to take on the Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles on Saturday, Sept. 30, at M.M. Roberts Stadium at 6:00 p.m.
