The San Marcos Rattlers (0-9, 0-4) battled the New Braunfels Unicorns (5-4, 3-1) this past Friday at the New Braunfels Unicorn Stadium losing the game 45-14.
With this being their fourth district game and their last game on the road, The Rattlers came into this game still fighting for their first win of the season. With a matchup like this, you could be sure that this game was going to be electrifying.
The Unicorns started off strong with their first touchdown in just five minutes into the game putting an early lead off into this game. Going into the end of the first quarter the Rattlers were down by 28 after a battle on the 19-yard line in Unicorn territory resulted in a turnover giving the Unicorns possession of the ball. On their first down the Unicorns pulled together an 81-yard rush giving them their last touchdown of the quarter with only 30-seconds left.
The Unicorns kept the heat high in the second quarter with another touching just two minutes into the quarter. The Rattlers responded almost eight minutes later when junior wide receiver Miguel Reynero made a receiving touchdown to finally put the Rattlers on the board.
Going into the second half and the Rattlers who were looking to fire it up and make a comeback met a very strong offensive presence from the Unicorns with an early touchdown of the half to put them up 42 to 7. The Unicorns ended their scoring spree with a field goal to close out the quarter. The Rattlers made their last stand in the fourth quarter with one last touchdown but couldn’t make their dream comeback a reality.
With this being their last game on the road and the Rattlers looking to make their final stand back home at Toyota Rattler Stadium, will the Rattlers be able to turn up the heat and make their first win of the season, or will they continue to simmer and go 0-10 on the season?
The Rattlers final game will be Friday, November 3rd against the East Central Hornets at Toyota Rattler Stadium.
