The San Marcos Rattlers have been playing high quality basketball as of lately as they recently defeated the Laredo LBJ Wolves 74-46. The Rattlers are now on a four game win streak following the dominant win. San Marcos has definitely found their rhythm and identity as they have won eleven of their past thirteen games. They would be on a thirteen-game win streak if they didn’t drop two close games to Tivy and Cedar Creek earlier in November. Nonetheless, the San Marcos Rattlers are a force to be reckon with at the current moment.

The Rattlers possessed a very high energy on both ends of the court from the tip-off. The Wolves were suffocating early on from a full court press by the Rattlers which led to a handful of turnovers. By the end of the 1st quarter, the Rattlers already held a commanding lead with a score of 19-6. Rattler’ Cash Good led all scores after the first quarter with 10 points. Six of those points came from back to back corner threes. The Wolves gained some momentum in the second quarter and started scoring points of their own. However the Rattlers would end the first half on a 12-4 run that would send them into halftime on top with a score of 34-19.

The second half would show that the San Marcos Rattlers were simply the better team. From fast break buckets, steals, and three pointers the Rattlers did it all in the second half. Rattler’ Zyair Jolivette caught fire in the third quarter as he sank three consecutive three-pointers a long with a handful of layups to head into the fourth quarter with fifteen points. The Wolves had no answer for the Rattlers as they would get closed out in the final minutes with a final score of 74-46.

Rattlers’ Zyiar Jolivette and Josiah Hollmon led the way for the Rattlers in this ballgame. Jolivette would finish the game with 19 points, with 15 of those coming from the third quarter. The 6’5 junior, Hollman, had himself a night as he finished with 20 points and a resounding 13 rebounds. San Marcos Head Coach, Dan Miller, had some words to say following the impressive win.

“I was pleased with the guys effort from the very start,” said Miller. “We like to play fast, and we prefer the game to be in the seventies rather than the forties.”

Coach Miller discussed about Zyiar Jolivette’s electrifying third quarter scoring outbreak.

“At any point of the game Zyair can explode,” said Miller. “He can be quiet for a while, but when he gets going he is a very special player.”

The San Marcos Rattler’s (12-4) next game will be on the road where they’ll face off with the Victoria West Warriors (6-5) @ 6:30 P.M.
