As the college football season nears its climax, the excitement is building for the keenly-awaited Servpro First Responder Bowl- set to take place in Dallas, Texas. The Texas State Bobcats and Rice Owls will clash in a thrilling fashion that promises to be a showcase of high-octane, flashy offense. Both teams have fought hard throughout the regular season to secure their spot in this prestigious bowl game.

The Texas State Bobcats, led by first-year head coach G.J. Kinne, have shown extraordinary growth and improvement throughout the season. With a record of 7-5, the Bobcats completely changed the trajectory of the program after finishing 4-8 last season. Field general TJ Finley has been ecstatic with his play, commanding an offense that averages 36 points per game. Wide receiver Joey Hobert has been a key playmaker, consistently finding the end zone and providing a reliable target for Finley. Superstar running back Ismail Mahdi was the focal point of the offense this year- finishing with over 1200 yards on the ground to go along with 11 total touchdowns (10 rushing, 1 receiving). Defensively, the Bobcats have been solid, led by linebacker Brian Holloway, who has been a force to be reckoned with- finishing the regular season with 99 tackles, two interceptions and three forced fumbles with two of them being recovered. Texas State enters the bowl game with confidence and a determination to finish the season on a high note with other key players set to contribute such as the likes of rush threat-Malik Hornsby.

On the other side, the Rice Owls, under the guidance of head coach Mike Bloomgren, have shown resilience and tenacity throughout the season. With a record of 6-6, the Owls fought their way to become bowl-eligible, showcasing their ability to adapt and overcome challenges. Offensively, the Owls have relied on the dual-threat abilities of multi-time transfer quarterback, JT Daniels, though Daniels was unfortunately forced to medically retire before the regular season concluded. The reins will now shift to freshman signal caller AJ Padgett. Padgett, who hails from Frisco, Texas, finished the year 2-1 as a starter. Wide receiver Luke McCaffrey, brother of NFL Superstar running back Christian McCaffrey, has been a constant workhorse, providing the Owls a reliable target. McCaffrey finished the regular season with 1064 all-purpose yards (963 receiving, 101 rushing) and 12 touchdowns. On the defensive side of the ball, Rice has been stout, anchored by linebacker Myron Morrison and safety Plae Wyatt, who have both evolved into an elite-tackling tandem. The Owls are determined to make a statement in the bowl game and cap off their season with a memorable victory.

As the Texas State Bobcats and Rice Owls prepare to face off in the 12th edition of the Servpro First Responder Bowl, football fans and enthusiasts can expect a captivating matchup that showcases some of the best of Texas football. With talented players, strategic coaching, and the determination to unwrap the final Christmas gift of a victory, both teams will leave everything on the field in their quest for bowl glory. The Servpro First Responder Bowl will be played at Gerald J. Ford Stadium on Tuesday, Dec. 26, with kickoff scheduled at 4:30 p.m.
