On Tuesday night, the San Marcos Rattlers Boys Basketball Team hosted the Steele Clemens Buffaloes Boys Basketball Team in a Tuesday night district matchup.

The game was off to a fast and physical start, even though the first quarter ended with a score of 12-1. Neither team could find their shots in the first quarter simply because of the physicality of both teams.

Within the five-minute mark of the second quarter, the Clemens Buffaloes eventually found their rhythm by leaving the Rattlers scoreless by going on a 10-0 run to close out the first half with a score of 29-19.

The Rattlers kept turning the ball over to the Clemens defense, and it played a negative role in the game for them. “Turnovers are stressed all the time in practice, and tonight it just got away from us, and it just came back to hurt us in the end,” said coach Dan Miller.

The Clemens offense eventually took over in the game towards the end of the third quarter and all of the fourth quarter, and Coach Dan Miller had this to say about it: “It all came down to toughness tonight, and we simply didn’t have it tonight, and Clemens took advantage of it and won the game tonight, as simple as that.”

The leading scorer for the Rattlers was junior guard Josiah Hollmon with 13 points, followed by Ory Williams with six points, then Cash Good and Donovan Riddick with five of their own. Each of the players were productive in each of their respective areas, with Ory Williams putting up a great defensive effort to make up for the interior defense. Each of these players will look to continue and improve their efforts in the following game.

The final score of tonight’s game was 62-39. The Rattlers take on the Steele Knights on Friday, Feb. 2, for another highly anticipated district matchup. Stay tuned for updates on KTSW 89.9 FM.
