SAN MARCOS, Texas— The Texas State Bobcats (8-14, 2-8) took on the South Alabama Jaguars (10-12, 3-7) at Strahan Arena Thursday night with a final score of 74-66.

This conference game was very crucial for the Bobcats since it was another chance for them to recover after four consecutive losses since their last win against the University of Louisiana Monroe Warhawks on Jan. 13.

Throughout the entirety of the game, it was a neck-to-neck battle, with both teams tying four times and exchanging leads six times.

In the first half, the Jaguars worked efficiently to exemplify a good defensive force against the Bobcats. However, that wasn’t enough for them to ultimately get them to victory.

Sophomore forward Davion Sykes was a key contributor for the Bobcats, leading with seven total rebounds in the first half and being one of the lead scorers alongside senior guard Dylan Dawson, both having six points.

The Jaguars were only trailing behind the Bobcats by a few points in the first half, ending with a score of 28-24 by halftime.

As the second half arose, the Bobcats shifted gears on how they handled the ball. Each player played a crucial role as time dwindled and the game remained tight.

Junior forward Brandon Love made two clutch free throws, and Sykes finished as the leading scorer of the second half with 12 points. Freshman guard Kaden Gumbs led all members with four assists, and sophomore guard Jordan Mason ended the night with 11 points.

With a structured technique of coming together as a whole during a crucial time in the game, teamwork propelled the Bobcats ahead, with the final score being 74-66.

The next game for the Bobcats will be on Saturday, Feb. 3, at Strahan Arena against the Southern Miss Golden Eagles at 4:15 p.m. It will be broadcast live on KTSW 89.9 FM and also streamed on ESPN+.
