SAN MARCOS, Texas—In a Friday night marquee game, the San Marcos Rattlers fell to the Cibolo Steele Knights in a District 27-6A matchup, 58-56.
This game was a must-win for the Rattlers since this was the final stretch of the regular season before the playoffs begin. When asked about the loss, Coach Dan Miller stated that it came down to free throws.
“We were a different team from where we were Tuesday; today we played with heart and we played as a team; this loss just came down to just missing the free throws.”
Turnovers had played a big role in the loss, and when asked about it, Coach stated, “We just need to take care of the ball better than we did tonight; we had some key losses tonight, but overall, I am proud of how they played tonight.”
Miller dedicated Friday night’s outcome to the physicality of the game and the number of free throws and fouls.

“We needed to play more physically than we did Tuesday, and we did, and it definitely showed today,” Miller said. “We just didn’t finish in other aspects tonight.”
Despite being held scoreless in the fourth quarter, Rattler junior guard Donovan Riddick led all scorers with 17 points. The next leading scorer for the Rattlers would be junior guard Josiah Hollman, with 10 points.
“Honestly, all of our guys can get to the basket,” Miller said. “I don’t really put it on one guy; it just so happens that Donavan got really good shots and found his rhythm; we just got to work on our share of the ball.”
The Rattlers will look to snap their two-game losing streak on the road in their next matchup against the Judson Rockets. The game will take place on Tuesday, Feb. 6, at 7:00 p.m. You can listen to the game on KTSW 89.9 and follow KTSW Sports for live updates.
