As the beating sun hit my skin, the pounding of industrial speakers filled my ears. The thud of running footsteps echoed across the grounds of Zilker Park and I had no idea what to expect from my first time at Austin City Limits. One thing that I knew for sure, I was going to be front row to Jungle, come hell or high water. From the moment Jungle took the stage at Austin City Limits, it was clear that the energy in the crowd was about to soar to unimaginable heights. The British band, known for their irresistible fusion of funk, soul and modern electronic sounds, unleashed a euphoric wave of groovy beats that had the entire audience moving nonstop. No one stood still, not for one second.

Opening with “Busy Earnin’,” Jungle immediately had everyone jumping and swaying in time to the infectious rhythm. An audience of energetic dancers became a sea of disco as Jungle played through their discography. We felt the lyrics “You can’t get enough,” as Jungle’s sound turned into a horizontal force of gravity, pulling us deeper into a collective groove that felt electric. One of my personal favorites, “Candle Flame,” came next, channeling an 80s funk that still managed to feel fresh and new, bringing a nostalgic aura into the modern day. It was impossible to ignore the fluidity of the sound as it rippled through the park, creating an unbroken flow of irresistible energy.
The setlist was a perfectly curated journey through the band’s best work. “I’ve Been In Love,” “Casio,” and “Back on 74” turned the festival grounds into a living, breathing dance party. As three of Jungle’s most popular hits, the lyrics reverberated through the crowd, with attendees singing along until their voices gave out. The crowd performed synchronized choreography from Jungle’s famous “Back on 74” music video, and the momentum never let up. People danced, laughed, and embraced the magic of the moment, lost in the seamless blend of past and present. The combination of rich, velvety harmonies and Jungle’s magnetic stage presence created an almost transcendental experience, one that I feel truly fortunate to have witnessed.

As “Casio” faded into their latest release, “Let’s Go Back,” Jungle effortlessly showcased their versatility in sound. The transitions between songs felt like being whisked from a vibrant party to a laid-back brunch, each shift offering its own version of effervescence. Highlights like “What D’You Know About Me” and “Time” curated a blend of retro funk with an early 2000s groove, keeping everyone in the moment.
“Don’t Play” and “All Of The Time” brought the set to its peak, with their driving rhythms taking the crowd on a rollercoaster. This part of Jungle’s set felt like the warmth of love wrapping around the crowd. It’s the kind of sound that envelops you like a long-awaited group hug after a stretch of loneliness, filling the space with connection, joy, and an intensified sense of belonging. After just a few more songs, the band then concluded with “Keep Moving,” finishing off Saturday evening with an emotional journey on full display.
As the bright lights faded and the festival grounds cleared, spirits of joy lingered in the air, leaving behind a sense of connection. Jungle’s performance at ACL 2024 was more than just a concert;– it was an almost religious experience. By the end of their set, Zilker Park buzzed with an undeniable afterglow. Thanks to Jungle and the expertly curated sets of Austin City Limits, incredible artists joined in a setting of community and celebration. It was a night that not only highlighted the power of music, but also reminded us of the joy of the moment.
