Texas State softball complete series sweep over Missouri State with 10-2 run-rule win

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Kate Bubela crushed a grand slam onto the train tracks behind left field to lift Texas State to a lopsided 10-2 run-rule victory in six innings over Missouri State at Bobcat Softball Stadium.

The Bobcats completed the decisive sweep of the three game series against Missouri State after this win.

Bubela finished the day with five RBI to give the Bobcats their first series sweep of 2025.

“The whole thing is barrel to the ball, and that’s what I tried to do, and it happened,” said Bubela. 

In the bottom of the first the Bobcats notched five runs before Missouri State recorded an out. The first on a Karmyn Bass single and the other four on Bubela’s grand slam. Bailee Slack’s RBI single to score Ciara Trahan concluded the onslaught that was the opening inning. 

The Bobcats would not score until the bottom of the sixth innings, where they earned the run-rule. With the bases loaded Bass drew an RBI walk, which led to consecutive RBI from both Bubela and Trahan to complete the run-rule victory. 

Emma Strood was the Bobcats starter and in five innings she struck out seven and allowed two hits equaling one run. Abigail Jennings pitched in the only other inning and allowed one run on two hits. 

McKenzie Vaughan started in the circle for the Bears and failed to record an out before being pulled from the game, giving her the loss. Vaughan gave up five unearned runs on two hits and two walks. 

The Bears’ offense flowed through Riley Baber. She drove in both runs with one of those RBI coming off a solo home run. 

“I think you’re starting to see a team that hopefully is ready to start a conference series now next weekend with a lot of confidence,” said Texas State head coach Ricci Woodard. “Which is exactly where I wanted to be going into this.”

The Bobcats begin Sun Belt Conference play against Appalachian State (8-14) at 6 p.m. next Friday at Bobcat Softball Stadium. The game will be available to stream on ESPN+.
