Texas State Baseball’s 2025 Season: Bobcats Comeback Still in Progress After Another Mediocre Season

SAN MARCOS – The Texas State Bobcats 2025 campaign came to an end after going 1-2 in the Sun Belt Tournament. The Bobcats finished below .500 for the second year in a row with a 27-31 record, 14-16 in conference play.  

Entering his sixth season, Head Coach Steven Trout and company were voted to finish eighth in the preseason coach’s poll, just two years after the program’s best season; and that’s what they did. 

The Bobcats’ offense struggled, finishing in the bottom third in every offensive category in the Sun Belt, and outside of strikeouts; it was similar to the same on the mound. 

However, the Bobcats lived for the big games in 2025. They beat #1 Texas A&M, #5 Texas and #19 Oklahoma State away from home. Took games against Southern Miss and Omaha bound Coastal Carolina who only lost six and four conference games respectively. And put up amazing offensive showings in their loss to #1 Texas and two losses to I-35 rival and super regional participant, UTSA. 

The Bobcats also had two All-Sun Belt honorees in two-way Redshirt Senior Austin Eaton, and Junior third baseman Chase Mora. 

Eaton was named Utility first team all-conference and a John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year semi-finalist. Eaton finished with a 2.55 ERA in 17.2 IP, and an OPS over .700 in conference play. Eaton was the Bobcats best arm for most of the year, tossing a 1.52 ERA in his final 29.2 IP, dating back to April 15th.  

Chase Mora was named second team-all conference, hitting .319 with 23 RBI and an OPS of .924. Mora started in all 58 games for the Maroon & Gold in 2025 and molded them into a comeback statement after he struggled last year following a stellar Freshman season in 23’. 

Finishing below .500 back-to-back seasons is hard on a program, especially in this era of the transfer portal and NIL. 

 Trout looks to piece it back together in 2026 and maybe get the program back on track to where it was just two years ago.
