CONVERSE, Texas–The Rattlers got a decisive victory against the Judson Rockets adding another win in District play Friday night closing on a 27-17 score that seems close however it was all Rattlers all day.
Fridays game was a tale of 2 halves as the San Marcos Rattlers were coming off a heated loss and were a bit shorthanded defensively missing most starters from last weeks scuffle as they were suspended in the first half of this game, Though shorthanded the game started with a Judson 3-and-out Followed by touchdowns for both The Rattlers and Judson making it 7-7 then a 53 yd DOT from Buck Steyn that Jordan Lampkin took to the house to go up 14-7. The Rattlers would only get one more possession after that which ended in a punt and Judson would would take the lead 17-14 at the end of the half.
Judson dominated time of possession, the rattler defense and the run game in the first half so what happened in the second? Well San Marcos got big help and didn’t let up a single score the rest of the game while the offense continued to soar led by Buck Steyn and Henry Harris who caught a long pass to help set up the lead taking touchdown in the 3rd quarter.
Its clear getting their guys back on defense was important to the win in the second half allowing 0 points to the previously allowed 17, Head Coach Tom Walsh about their impact and the difference they made in todays game “we had 5 sophomores starting on defense in the first half and we knew when we got our starters back they were gonna have a hard time scoring” and although those sophomores let up 17 points he still praised them “their job was to keep it a one score game going into the half and they did that and played hard.”

Staring in the second half of game down by 3 isn’t easy but the Rattlers showed no signs of fading and came out quick and strong on defense and after most not playing due to last weeks altercation you think they would come out with some heat but Henry Harris humbly stated that “it didn’t affect me honestly we knew we were gonna struggle a little bit the first half and coach came in and drew it up during halftime and we just came out and executed, what happened last week is dead in the water, we talked all week about this and we knew we just had to lock in and I’m glad we did.”
The San Marcos Rattlers improve to 5-3 and 3-1 in district play ranking 3rd overall with a big game against Steele High School coming next week the Rattlers will not have to worry about having any starters out with no extracurriculars after this game, and after dominating on both sides of the ball they look more prepared than ever.
