SAN MARCOS, Texas– The Texas State Bobcats women’s basketball team fell to UTRGV 77-65 on Monday night, making the Bobcats 0-4 to start the 2025-26 season.

Saniya Burks led the way scoring for the Bobcats with 24 points, Kaliyah Anderson and Kyra Anderson both collected 6 rebounds to lead the way on the glass for the Bobcats.

Texas State falls to UTRGV despite a surge in the second half.

Bobcats Head Coach Zenarae Antoine spoke about the inconsistency of scoring off of turnovers

“It won’t fix itself if we don’t work on it,” said Coach Z. “ We’ve done a better job this past week of working on it after last game we did not convert, we’re doing some different things drill wise to help.”

Coach Z also talked about the second quarter where the Bobcats were only able to collect 3 points in 10 minutes of play.

“We took some ill-advised shots and we did not do a good job of taking high percentage shots,” said Coach Z. “When you take shots that are not necessarily in flow for you then your rebounders aren’t in place people aren’t prepared, you put a lot of stress on your transition defense which gives the other teams good looks in transition.”

Coach Z concluded with how excited she was with the fight the Bobcats showed despite being down double digits

”I’m excited when we sit down and watch film to show them that we have the capabilities to fight and battle and make adjustments in game. We just have to work on not putting ourselves in that situation in games to come,” said Coach Z.

The UTRGV Vaqueros jumped out on the Bobcats early in this game, getting up double digits early in the first quarter. A run by the Bobcats and the end of the quarter cut the lead to just 5 with a score of 21-16 at the end of one.

The Vaqueros outscored the Bobcats 16-3 in the second quarter with the Bobcats only converting one three point basket. The Vaqueros went into the halftime break with a comfortable 37-19 lead.

In the third and fourth quarter the Bobcats were able to cut the lead to single digits multiple times but could never get over the hump as the Vaqueros went on to defeat the Bobcats 77-65.

This loss drops the Bobcats to 0-4 on the season. The Bobcats will look to pick up their first win of the season Tuesday Nov. 25 at 7:00 p.m. when they take on the Tarleton Texans.
