Texas State Dominates UNT Dallas Behind Strong Defensive Performance

Texas State women’s basketball earned a 64 to 38 win over UNT Dallas this past Wednesday at Strahan Arena, and the numbers show how complete the performance was. The Bobcats controlled every quarter and held the Trailblazers to 25 percent shooting from the field. UNT Dallas finished only 13 for 53 overall and three for 19 from the three point line. Texas State’s pressure forced difficult looks all night and prevented the Trailblazers from finding any scoring rhythm. 

Rebounding played a major role in the win. Texas State pulled down 29 defensive rebounds and consistently eliminated second chance opportunities. UNT Dallas collected only nine offensive rebounds, and that allowed the Bobcats to dictate tempo from the opening tip. 

Offensively, the Bobcats produced steady scoring throughout the game. They put up 18 points in the first quarter, 13 in the second, 19 in the third, and 14 in the fourth. The balanced production kept the lead comfortable and gave Texas State full control of the pace. 

Kyra Anderson once again made an impact on the glass with nine rebounds. Her activity around the rim helped fuel transition chances and maintain the energy that carried Texas State through all four quarters. 

After the game, Coach Zenarae Antoine spoke about what she wants to improve going into their first conference matchup against Louisiana-Lafayette. 

“It has always been a phenomenal match up between Garry Brodhead’s team and our team at Lafayette no matter what the circumstances. It is going to be a great test. I know that they are running a lot of zone defense so this game was important to us as well and our ability to stay patient in the zone. We had some costly turnovers in the zone that we cannot afford against Lafayette. I look forward to this time where we will finish up finals and then get some rest, but we will be busy when it comes to the scouting report for this next game.” 

The Bobcats will look to use this performance as a blueprint as they start conference play, focusing on cleaner execution and more consistency in the weeks ahead. After a much needed turnaround from last game’s loss, the Bobcats are starting to find their rhyme and look to start the right way in their final year in the Sun Belt.
