The Bobcats Rally Back to Defeat ULL, Pickup First Conference Win of the Season

SAN MARCOS, Texas– The Texas State Bobcats defeated the ULL Ragin Cajuns 62-55 on Wednesday night to get their first conference win of the season.  

Saniya Burks led the way for the Bobcats scoring 16 points, Talia Gibbs followed right up having a breakout night scoring 14 points. Forward Kyra Anderson collected 11 rebounds to lead the way on the glass for the Bobcats.  

Bobcats head coach Zenarae Antoine spoke on Gibbs postgame.  

“Gibbs is a gentle giant and we knew she had a breakout game in her” Said Coach Z. “I believe that this game will spark her confidence as we get deeper into conference play.  

Guard Saniya Burks spoke on how she loves the big time moments after her clutch finish to the game.  

“I love getting the ball in the clutch moments and making this happen, Its even more awesome to hear your home crowd erupt after a big moment happens late in the game.”  

Coach Z concluded by speaking about how important home wins are in this conference  

“It is key to pickup wins at home as there is a lot of great talent in this league, I cant wait to show our student athletes the film tomorrow and get ready to face ULM.”  

Both teams started slow from the field and it was a back and forth defensive battle that was tied and the end of the first quarter.  

The game was tight throughout the second quarter, ULL held a one score lead through most of the quarter and a late bucket put them up by four points at halftime.  

ULL was able to extend their lead to five points midway through the third quarter, but a 7-2 bobcat run to end the third had this game tied 39-39 heading to the fourth quarter.  

Both teams got hot in the fourth quarter with the Bobcats holding a slim 54-51 lead with just under four minutes to go in regulation. The Bobcats closed the game strong on a 7-1 run which secured them their first conference win of the season.  

This win improves the Bobcats record to 6-4 (1-0 conference play). The Bobcats will be back in action on Saturday December 20th at noon where they will take on the ULM Warhawks in their second game of conference play.
