SAN MARCOS, Texas– The Bobcats took down the Sun Belt leader the Troy Trojans 74-62 Wednesday night to extend
their win streak to five games.
DJ Hall led the way scoring for the Bobcats scoring 21 points, Mark Drone had a nice
performance shooting as well scoring 15 points for the Bobcats.
Bobcats Head Coach Terrance Johnson spoke about how big of an impact the hot start played
in this game
“It was big to get the crowd into it because at their place we started with a turnover,” said coach
Johnson. “It was crucial to get hot early to get the crowd into it and get our swagger.”
Coach Johnson concluded with how crucial these wins are with the format of the Sun Belt
tournament.
”It’s super important because it wouldn’t be the fun belt without a wacky tournament bracket. We
need to control what we can control, go 4-0 in these next four games and give ourselves a
chance to get into the top 4 come tournament play.”
The Bobcats got out to a lead early in the first half of this game and held a seven to nine point
lead for the majority of the first half. Kaden Gumbs hit a three point shot to give the Bobcats
their first double digit lead at 42-31. The Bobcats cooled down to end the first half but hung on
to a 46-39 halftime lead.
The Bobcats picked up where they left off and dominated the second half quickly going up
double digits and holding a double digit lead for the majority of the second half. The Trojans cut
the lead to nine with a minute to go but it was to little to late as the Bobcats cruised to the 74-62
victory.
This win improves the Bobcats record to 16-11 (8-6 Sun Belt) they will hit the court again this
Saturday at 2:00 p.m. when they take on the ULM Warhawks.
