SAN MARCOS, Texas– Texas State baseball beat the Gonzaga Bulldogs in the weekend series finale Sunday afternoon 5-0.
The rubber match was all Bobcats.
Trying to bounce back from a rough loss on Saturday, the Bobcats put claws to the wall against Gonzaga. Pitcher Jesus Tovar dealt a fair hand Sunday, slinging a final line of 8 innings pitched, 3 hits allowed and no runs. The lefty starter kept the Bulldogs at bay and struck them out six times.

The Bobcats bats were blazing. Jackson Cotton homered in the third inning to put the Bobcats on the board, and a Tanner Carson single plated 2 more in the fourth to move the lead to 3.
Sampson Pugh worked a walk with the bases loaded in the fourth and a Rashawn Galloway sac fly plated another in the sixth capitalized the Bobcats last few runs.
The Bobcats playing the Bulldogs marks the first time playing a Pac-12 opponent in what is the Bobcats final season in the Sun Belt Conference.
As good as he played, starting pitcher Jesus Tovar is still only taking it a game at a time, not worried about the future of the team.
“Winning any series feels good,” said Tovar. “We can’t really look too far to who’s on the other side. We got to treat every game the same way, no matter who it is.”
The Bobcats will stay home and face their I-35 rival University of Texas – San Antonio, (UTSA) Tuesday, Feb. 24 at 6:00 p.m.
