SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Bobcats took down the Washington State Cougars 4-3 in the series Sunday finale. They moved to 12-3 on the year, their program’s best start since the historic 2022 campaign.
Jesus Tovar started on the mound for the Bobcats, tossing six innings with seven strikeouts and allowing just one run; his first of the season. Tovar would pick up the win and move to 4-0 on the year.
Dawson Park drew first blood by hitting a two-run blast to deep right center in the 2nd, his third of the weekend and season. Rashawn Galloway hit his team-leading ninth double to left center in the fifth for an RBI. Brady Boles went 2-4 and added on with an RBI single up the middle in the sixth.

Alec Beversdorf took over in the seventh and allowed two runs in two innings. Wade Cooper would enter in the ninth, hit two batters with two outs, but stayed strong to pick up the save – his fourth.
Tovar tossed 23 scoreless frames to begin the season and said he’s just trying to attack hitters as much as he can.
“I know some of the walks have been really big for me this year, either way you have to keep competing” said Tovar. “I think that’s what keeps me going right now is just attacking hitters as much as I can.”
Head Coach Steven Trout jokingly said the uniform combination and his good movement is the biggest factor for Tovar’s success.
“He’s undefeated in the uniform combo [maroon jerseys and pinstripe pants, we might have to take it on the road with us,” Trout said. “He’s cutting the ball, sinking, throwing nothing straight, he’s just hard to square up.”
Texas State will host the undefeated Texas Longhorns (15-0) on Tuesday, an environment Trout said is packed, rowdy, and one of the best nights of the year. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
