SAN MARCOS, Texas — The Texas State Bobcats used a late-inning surge to defeat Louisiana 4-1 after a scoreless battle through seven innings.

Both teams struggled to find rhythm early, as Texas State’s Kyle Froehlich and Louisiana’s Sawyer Pruitt controlled the game on the mound. Froehlich set the tone for the Bobcats, working efficiently and keeping Louisiana off the board, while Pruitt matched the effort by limiting Texas State’s offensive chances.

The Bobcats had opportunities to break through, including doubles from Rashawn Galloway in the fourth inning and Chase Mora in the fifth, but were unable to capitalize on them. Through seven innings, neither team had managed to push a run across, keeping the game locked in a tight pitcher’s duel.

Louisiana finally broke through in the top of the eighth inning when Steven Spalitta tripled to right-center. Blaze Rodriguez followed with an RBI single, giving Louisiana a 1-0 lead and shifting momentum late in the game.

Texas State responded immediately in the bottom half of the inning. Jackson Cotton sparked the rally with a single, followed by Manny Salas being hit by a pitch and a walk from Galloway to load the bases. With two outs, Jaquae Stewart delivered the biggest moment of the night, launching a grand slam to right field to give the Bobcats a 4-1 lead.

The Bobcats closed out the game in the ninth, securing the win after being held scoreless for most of the night.

Head coach Steven Trout emphasized the importance of the win following the game.

“We needed that win in a bad way,” Trout said. “That’s a toughness win. You don’t get caught up in past results—you just find a way to win the pitch in front of you. Kyle set the tone, and the offense responded. It was big for us to feel that again and carry that momentum into the rest of the series.”

Texas State will look to build on the momentum as the series continues this weekend.
