The Bobcats Host a Home Run Party and Sweep No. 25 Ragin’ Cajuns

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State has managed to complete the sweep of their Top 25 conference foes University of Louisiana at Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns in a 16-6 run rule victory in the seventh inning on Sunday afternoon.

In this Sunday clash, the Bobcats were able to tie a School Record for most Home Runs in a game as a team with eight long shots.

The Ragin’ Cajuns had JR Tollett starting today and the Bobcats had Jesus Tovar on the bump.

Tollett only worked three full innings while giving up 11 earned runs on 11 hits, including six home runs with only one strikeout. Tollett also picked up his first loss of the year on the outing. The Cajuns had not lost a game yet this season with Tollett starting on the bump.

Tovar on the other hand was able to work a full five innings, giving up only three earned on five hits while striking out only three batters. Even though there were only a couple of strikeouts for Tovar, the defense showed up big time with zero errors by the Bobcats.

Out of the eight Home Runs that the Bobcats hit on Sunday, two of them came from the Shortstop Dawson Park. Two of them came from Ethan Farris, the Redshirt Sophomore First Baseman.

After the game Ethan Farris talked about about getting his first Collegiate Home Run for Texas State, especially after his season ending injury last year.

“I’ve been waiting for that first one for a while I’ll be honest” said Farris. “Being able to just come back and bounce back from a big injury. We’ve been in the rehab facility and doing weight room stuff, I feel like I’m a lot stronger and in really good shape right now, feels good.”

Coach Trout talked about Farris competing for the full time First Baseman duties moving forward. Trout hyped up Farris, mentioning how much of a talent he is. But Trout also remained focused on lineup adaptability and fitting guys into the lineups to give the team different looks.

“Ethan is a premiere talent, I think he’s the first guy since I’ve been here that has been drafted out of high school and showed up to campus” said Trout. “We’ve always known he’s got all the talent…The crazy part is that he is such a great athlete, if we put him on the field in any position…his arm is getting close to where he is ready to go to the outfield, which will give us another way to move guys around. He gives us a lot of options because he’s really really athletic.”

The Bobcats face The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley home at Bobcat Ballpark on Tuesday at 6 p.m. where the Bobcats will try to extend their winning streak to four games.
