SAN MARCOS, Texas—The Texas State Bobcats take down the The Thundering Heard with a hot start jumping out to a 5-0 lead in the second inning.

Junior left handed pitcher Azua started and finished the game with 101 pitches and only giving up one run on three hits. Azua also added ten more strikeouts to her season total bringing that to 137 k’s on the year. The Bobcats offense was also hot stringing together 12 hits and scoring 6. Harvey and Bass lead the way for the Bobcats both going 3-4 with RBI doubles.

The Bobcats started this game hot scoring three runs in the first and two in the second inning.  Williams was the first baserunner for the Cats starting off the game with a bunt single. A single from Bass and a walk brought the bases loaded for Vestal and she comes through. A single up the middle scores Williams, followed by a single from Zarate and a fielders choice score Bass then Vestal giving the Bobcats a 3-0 lead.

The next inning Harvey opens the inning with a single to right field and Bass follows her with a double down the left field line scoring Harvey from first base. Vestal hits a shot to the right-center gap and stretches it to second scoring bass on a hustle double.

The Thundering Heard left four runners stranded for the game. Including a triple from Marshall’s Leslie opening the fifth inning. After a sac bunt from Simpson The Herd scored their first run of the ballgame.

In the sixth inning Azua retires the side in order keeping The Herd at one run and the Cats wanted some insurance. After Harvey’s single and Bass reaching on a hard ball to shortstop. Coleman gave the Bobcats some late life hitting a single up the middle scoring Harvey bringing the score to 6-1 Cats.

In the seventh Azua ends the game with a strike out and Bobcats win the first game of the series.

Head Coach Ricci Woodard emphasized how important momentum is and how the Bobcats need to keep building off this.

“ The Texas game’s momentum has carried over to today and that’s the thing, we need to confident and we need to understand that we’re good enough to beat anybody if we stay to our game”

The Bobcats will host The Thundering Herd this Saturday at 2 p.m. and Sunday at 10 a.m. and will look to get an in-conference sweep.
