SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Bobcats four year letterman Chase Mora made history in their 9-8 loss in the Georgia Southern series finale Friday night. In the bottom of the 4th, with Clayton Namken on third and Ethan Farris on second, Mora hit a towering fly ball on a 1-0 pitch to left center for a three-run homer and the 37th of his collegiate career.

Mora surpasses Texas State legend Paul Goldschmidt’s mark of 36 and now stands alone at the top–a new home run king.
Head Coach Steven Trout motioned to his captain to give the loud fans a curtain call after his historic swing and the stadium erupted in cheer while Mora pointed to his mom in the bleachers.

“That woman’s done more for me in my life than I can even thank her for,” Mora said. “I wouldn’t be standing here today talking to ya’ll without her, everything that I do on this field is because of her.”

Mora began his career in San Marcos on fire, hitting 17 bombs his Freshman campaign in 2023, the fourth most in program history. Winning multiple Collegiate Baseball National Player of the Week awards and being named to the Perfect Game Freshman All-American second team. Mora slowed down his Sophomore season in almost every category, including hitting only six homers, but would come back his Junior season, hitting eight and bouncing back in every other way too. His record breaking homer Friday night was his fifth of his senior season, and just the first of many more to add to his total, with a squad that has that different type of feeling this year.

“It’s good to get the monkey off my shoulder, now I can just go play and not worry about anything,” Mora said. “Early on it was just in the back of my head and as I got closer it started to weigh on me more.”

Chase Mora–a name Texas State fans will revere for a long time. He’ll take the field again Tuesday night when the Texas A&M Aggies come to the new and improved Slam Marcos.
