SAN MARCOS, Texas – No. 21 Texas State secured its fifth win of the season in a dominating 5-0 contest. Texas State led for 81 out of the 90 minutes to improve its record to 5-0-1 and extend its unbeaten streak to six.

The scoring opened up in the eighth when Matsuri Tsutsui delivered a beautiful cross into the box, where Meza finished it off with a clinical header.

Then in the 14th minute, Alexis Montgomery shot a missile from eighteen yards out and doubled the Bobcats’ lead. Then, five minutes later, Meza would receive a long ball from Jenny Ngankem and would convert to earn her third brace of the season.

Bobcats led by three goals before the clock struck 20, and the scoreline would remain until halftime. We talked to Head Coach Steve Holeman about the goal barrage, “Yeah, the focal point today was to be relentless. It’s easy to score in the first ten minutes and take your foot off the gas, and they didn’t do that today”, said Holeman.

Texas State would keep their foot on the gas as they would be fouled in the box and Nina Norshie would convert a penalty just two minutes into the second half to extend their lead to 4-0.

Then Tsutsui would deal the final blow in the 57th minute as she delivered a world-class goal into the top right corner of the net and gave the Cats a 5-0 lead.

We knew we had to bring our best effort tonight, and I’m proud of the girls that they did just that. We came out firing on all cylinders after talking about being relentless this week, controlling the scoring and not letting up. They showed it tonight, so just a really good effort”, said Holeman when asked about his team’s performance.

Texas State will now look ahead as they will play the final game of their homestand against Rice on Thursday, Sept. 3rd at 7 p.m.
